The rivalry between mothers-in-law and their daughters-in-law is very common, especially in the African culture.
Being uMakoti (daughter-in-law) is not always easy. Some families will always treat you or remind you that you are an outsider and it’s very rare to find a mother-in-law who will embrace you as her own.
This is why a lot of social media users have praised Dineo Ranaka’s mom for being the best mother-in-law.
In this week’s episode of ‘The Ranakas’, the family was out on a vacation and there came a time for Mrs Ranaka’s children to give her a present.
The daughters told Mrs Ranaka that they have gotten her a gift and to present the gift, Mpumi Ranaka, asked all her siblings to stand up.
“May all of my siblings please stand up,” said Mpumi.
But, she asked her sister-in-law Michelle not to stand up.
“Michelle should sit down,” said Mpumi.
Mrs Ranaka asked why Michelle was not allowed to stand and be a part of the process.
“We are giving you a gift here as the children that you have birthed, both you and daddy. Can you allow us?” said Mpumi.
Mrs Ranaka called the girls to order, saying Michelle carries the Ranaka surname and is her child.
Even though the sisters-in-law tried to ask the mom to accept their gift, she bluntly refused and said as long as they side-lined Michelle, she wants nothing to do with the gift.
Michelle thanked her mother-in-law for embracing her.
“That’s one thing I love about being part of the family, you know, is that she always sees me as her daughter as well,” said Michelle.
