If you own a club, bar, restaurant or shebeen you may have to close down your establishment with immediate effect or scale down the number of patrons to less than fifty. This is according to the new Disaster Management Act regulations that have been gazetted by Government in the wake of the coronavirus.
South Africa currently has 116 confirmed cases of Covid-19.
According to the new regulations to try and curb the spread of the virus – all bars, shebeens and some restaurants must close by 6 pm. On Sundays and public holidays, the closing time is 1 pm.
The MEC for community safety Faith Mazibuko says the liquor board has given her the assurance that there will be compliance by tavern and shebeen owners.
Mazibuko says a process is underway to ensure that the new regulations are enforced and monitored by the police.
