Getting a massage is one of the best ways of pampering yourself.
A massage has many great benefits.
It is relaxing, and can help reduce stress and pain, depending on the type of massage you choose.
According to Angel Seleka, the owner of Her Spa, Massage Therapy is huge part of wellness.
The beauty therapist, who worked on international cruise ships for four years, believes that it is important to get a massage “at least once a month”.
Angel says she started her mobile spa business in South Africa to give South Africans “a different luxurious experience in their homes”.
The aim was also to help those who suffer from tense muscles, pain or those who just need relaxation.
Below, Angel highlights the three most popular types of massages and their benefits.
A Swedish massage is one of the most popular massages. It is a therapeutic massage treatment that works the soft tissues and muscles.
“This massage is more of a soft touch and helps promote sleep and reduce stress,” says Angel.
The massaging technique involves long, soft, kneading strokes to release tension from the deepest muscles of the body.
Aromatherapy massage is used for a variety of different reasons, ranging from relaxation and pain relief to decreasing muscle tension.
Angel says with “this massage we use essential oils which are more concentrated to help target a specific concern.”
“For example lavender oil is used to help reduce stress. It’s more calming versus eucalyptus oil [which] is [a] more energising oil,” says the beauty therapist.
Most of the oils that are used are highly concentrated plant oils.
Hot stone massage
Hot stone massage involves the use of smooth, heated stones.
“This is a popular massage most people love it for the heat,” says Angel.
The beauty therapist and skin specialist says the hot stone massage is aimed at helping relax the muscles when the heat penetrates the body.
She adds that it helps improve flexibility.
