Police officers are some of those who are most at risk of contracting the coronavirus. This is because their duties bring them in close and frequent contact with members of the public.
To reduce their risk, President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announced that the third stream of vaccination will be focused on the police and other security personnel.
The kick-off for the vaccination rollout for the South African Police Service (SAPS) starts on Monday, 5 July 2021.
“As the safety of police officials and support staff remains one of the government’s key priorities in the fight against the invisible enemy, COVID-19, the South African Police Service (SAPS) will launch the vaccination drive for over 180 000 members on Monday, 5 July 2021 in cooperation with key stakeholders and medical aid partners,” reads a statement from SAPS.
