Good news for travellers looking to avoid the chaos and congestion at the OR Tambo International Airport when flying to Cape Town, as Airlink is set to launch twice-daily flights between Cape Town and the Lanseria International Airport.
The new route was confirmed by Airlink CEO de Villiers Engelbrecht, with the two daily flights set to begin in December 2026.
Flights will depart from Lanseria at 09h10 and 13h00, arriving in Cape Town at 11h35 and 15h25, respectively.
Return flights will depart Cape Town at 09h20 and 13h30, arriving at Lanseria at 11h35 and 15h45.
A new alternative for Johannesburg travellers
Engelbrecht says the new service will provide a convenient connection for travellers to and from Johannesburg who want to avoid the traffic and congestion associated with OR Tambo International Airport and the East Rand.
‘Travel options on this route have been limited, and we intend to give passengers a comfortable and enjoyable alternative for travelling between the two regions, while also complementing our existing services to OR Tambo,” said Airlink CEO de Villiers Engelbrecht.
The route will also be Airlink’s first scheduled domestic service from Lanseria and will be operated by a 98-seat Embraer E190.

In August, Airlink announced its first scheduled service from Lanseria, with three weekly flights to Harare starting on 15 November.
The addition of the Cape Town route will further expand Airlink’s operations from Lanseria, giving travellers another option when planning domestic and regional trips.
For Johannesburg residents living closer to Lanseria, the new Cape Town service could offer a more convenient alternative to travelling to OR Tambo for a domestic flight.
