Set in the heart of Mpumalanga, the fictitious town of Shonalanga is where land is ploughed for the riches of the very few. Land of Mills and Money premiered on e.tv on Monday, 31 August at 7pm.
At the heart of Land of Mills and Money is Phiwe, played by Nelisiwe Sibiya, a fiercely determined young police officer who finds her world turned upside down after a fateful encounter during a heist leaves her with a secret she must protect at all costs. As she struggles to keep the truth hidden from her family and colleagues, township matriarch Mazwi Mhlongo, played by Winnie Nthsaba, sees an opportunity to use Phiwe’s secret to her advantage. However, deep down in Shonalanga, we also find a love story, a complicated one at that, where Phiwe, because of her decision at the heist, can’t be with the man that she truly loves, Muzi Mhlongo, played by Zamani Mbatha.
The show carries a stellar ensemble cast featuring some of South Africa’s most celebrated performers, including Themba Ndaba as Melusi, Jo-Anne Reyneke as Thembi, Sphelele Luthuli as Khwezi, Mbali Ngiba as Gog’Sindi, Kenneth Nkosi as Pastor Caiphus and Gcinile Nkosi as Mam’Dee.
