- The Madlanga Commission heard fresh allegations against former IDAC head Andrea Johnson during proceedings on Thursday.
- These include claims relating to a leaked phone call, an alleged hostile working environment and an alleged campaign against senior police officials.
- Johnson has also acknowledged having a close relationship with suspended Deputy Crime Intelligence head Feroz Khan.
A phone call recording played at the Madlanga Commission has placed former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Andrea Johnson under further scrutiny.
Proceedings before the Commission on Thursday, 30 July 2026, heard a recording in which Johnson allegedly tells IDAC prosecutor Drushantha Ramsamy to leave the country if she is summoned to testify before the inquiry investigating allegations of corruption within the criminal justice system.
Later in the call, Johnson is also heard criticising the commissioners and the chairperson, commenting on the way they laugh and describing it as unprofessional.
The call reportedly took place on one of the days Johnson was giving evidence before the Commission.

Johnson allegedly created a hostile working environment at IDAC
The Madlanga Commission also heard allegations that Johnson created a hostile working environment at IDAC.
Ramsamy testified that many employees were reluctant to challenge the former head because they feared the consequences of opposing her decisions.
She further alleged that the hostile working environment resulted in several staff members seeking counselling due to the pressure they experienced.
Alleged campaign against Fannie Masemola and Dumisani Khumalo
The Commission also heard allegations that Johnson orchestrated a campaign against Crime Intelligence boss General Dumisani Khumalo and suspended National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola.
Ramsamy alleged that Johnson, together with chief investigator Dylan Perumal, used IDAC’s investigative powers to target the two senior police officials.
Close personal relationship with Feroz Khan
While concluding her testimony earlier this week, Johnson acknowledged having a close relationship with suspended Deputy Crime Intelligence head Feroz Khan.
Text messages revealed before the Commission showed Khan referring to Johnson as “gorgeous”, inviting her and her children to dinner, and seeking her assistance over concerns that the Hawks were allegedly plotting against him.
These allegations were presented before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry and remain contested. The Commission is continuing with its testimonies.
