- The minister says a report on the investigations is expected within 90 days.
Labour and Employment Minister Nomakhosazana Meth has assured that several investigations are underway at Cartrack in Johannesburg following the death of an employee at its Rosebank offices last month.
Meth was addressing the media at the Cartrack office in Rosebank on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, following a brief inspection.
The inspection comes a month after Gcina Dhladhla died while at work after reporting to her line manager that she was not feeling well.
Media reports suggest that the 29-year-old informed her supervisor that she was experiencing dizziness and nausea before collapsing in a bathroom at the office.
Furthermore, Dhladhla had reportedly requested sick leave, days before her death, which was allegedly denied by her line manager.
Her death sparked outrage across the country, including on social media, with users sharing their experiences as former Cartrack employees.
Among the claims raised are allegations that employees are generally required to use stairs instead of elevators unless they have medical authorisation. Others have alleged difficulties accessing sick leave and claims of being forced to take unpaid leave.
Former employees have also shared accounts of what they describe as challenging working conditions at the company.
Meth says she expects to receive a report on the investigations within 90 days.
She further assured that labour law inspections had been regularly conducted at Cartrack before Dhladhla’s death.
