Veteran musician and DJ Oskido (Oscar Mdlongwa) has expressed his pride and joy in South African Grammy-winning DJ Black Coffee’s journey to success following a recent trip to Ibiza.
In a post on social media, Oskido shared that Black Coffee (Nathi Maphumulo) not only took care of him in Ibiza but also treated him to a trip to Mykonos, Greece, marking his first time flying on a private jet.
“In 2005 we saw something in @realblackcoffee when few were paying attention.
“Today, look at what God has done with his journey. This weekend, he took care of me in Ibiza, then said, ‘Bhuda, let’s go to Greece 🇬🇷 Mykonos.’ Next thing, I am on a private jet for the first time in my life,” Oskido wrote.
A friendship built on music
While Black Coffee had already established himself as a talented producer, Oskido recognised his potential early in his career.
He helped launch Black Coffee’s recording career when he signed him to his label, Kalawa Jazmee Records, where he released his self-titled debut album in 2005.
Over the years, Black Coffee has repeatedly credited Oskido with giving him his big break, saying the veteran producer believed in his sound when few others did.
Today, Black Coffee is one of the world’s biggest electronic music DJs, with a Grammy Award, sold-out international shows and a long-running residency in Ibiza.
Major League DJz celebrate Oskido in Ibiza
The Major League DJz, who were also performing on the island, shared a video from the weekend featuring the veteran producer.
“IBIZA… WHAT A NIGHT. This past Friday was pure madness. The energy was on another level, and having the one and only Grootman @oskidoibelieve in the building made it even more special.
Moments like these remind us why we do this. Ibiza, thank you. See you next Friday.”
Oskido’s Big Day Out returns
Meanwhile, Oskido is gearing up for the return of his highly anticipated festival, Oskido’s Big Day Out 2026.
Now in its third edition, the event will take place on Saturday, 28 November 2026, at the picturesque Huddle Park in Linksfield.
In a major first for the festival, Oskido revealed that the event will expand to feature two separate stages this year to accommodate a much larger line-up of legendary artists and rising stars. The production will also include expanded bar facilities and enhanced premium hospitality offerings.
Speaking to Drive 959 with Glen, Skhumba and Kgomotso recently, Oskido said: “Every year we listen carefully to what our audience wants, and the message was clear last year: give us more music.
“That’s exactly what we’re delivering in 2026 with an additional stage. We are all about bringing people together through music, culture and shared experiences.”
