- Two men have been arrested in Naledi, Soweto, after police allegedly discovered human organs and a hijacked Department of Health vehicle at a residential property.
- JMPD officers made the arrests after responding to a tip-off about a vehicle being stripped.
- Authorities are now investigating the origin of the alleged human organs and searching for the homeowner.
Two suspects have been arrested in Soweto following the discovery of human organs at a residential property.
The suspects were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit on Thursday evening, 9 July 2026.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said officers were conducting routine crime prevention patrols when they received a tip-off about a vehicle allegedly being stripped at a property on Nape Street in Naledi.
“Upon arriving at the specified address, officers noted that the property gate was open and proceeded into the yard. After discovering the front door of the house half-open and receiving no response to their knocks, officers entered the premises.
“They encountered a male suspect inside the house. After officers identified themselves and stated their purpose, the suspect indicated that the vehicle in question was located in the garage and belonged to the homeowner,” said Fihla.
He said a search of the garage led to the discovery of a white Volkswagen Caddy belonging to the National Department of Health.
A verification check confirmed that the vehicle had been reported hijacked and was already in the process of being stripped.
Officers then expanded their search of the property and allegedly found a second male suspect hiding in the backyard.
“A further search of the yard led to a highly disturbing discovery, two buckets allegedly containing human organs, believed to be hearts and lungs,” Fihla said.
The two suspects have been detained at Naledi SAPS and are facing charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle and possession of human organs.
Investigations are ongoing as SAPS and JMPD work to establish the origin of the alleged human organs and locate the homeowner.
