AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has called on the public not to judge him solely based on a recently surfaced viral video in which he is seen shouting at one of his wives, Nomzamo Myeni-Zulu.
The video was reportedly recorded inside the royal household, although it is unclear when it was filmed.
In the footage, King Misuzulu is seen in a heated verbal altercation with Myeni-Zulu, who repeatedly responds by saying “Bayede” throughout the exchange.
The leaked video, which has attracted widespread attention and criticism on social media, appears to show the King insulting Myeni-Zulu before ordering her to leave the Khangelamankengane Royal Palace.
The King, who is seen holding what appears to be a bottle of alcohol, is also heard making derogatory remarks about the leader of the Shembe church and telling Myeni-Zulu that he will no longer provide her with financial support, saying she would “go back to being poor.”
Before the video ends, Myeni-Zulu, who appears to be recording the incident, says this is her daily reality.
In a statement issued by his office, the King appealed to the public to consider the broader context and judge him by his overall leadership rather than the leaked footage.
In the statement, King Misuzulu said the recordings were old and did not reflect the family’s current circumstances.
He also expressed deep regret for the pain and disappointment caused.
His spokesperson, Mpiyakhe Buthelezi, urged the public to respect the royal family’s privacy, describing the incident as a domestic matter that should not have been made public.
