- Two suspects have been arrested following a joint police operation targeting blue light robberies and car hijackings.
- Officers allegedly recovered an unlicensed firearm, police uniforms, blue lights, and a vehicle believed to have been hijacked.
- The pair is expected to appear in court on charges including possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, illegal firearm possession, and impersonating police officers.
Two suspects believed to be behind a string of blue light robberies and car hijackings have been arrested in Mpumalanga.
Their arrest follows a collaborative operation between police in Devon, Gauteng, and the Mpumalanga Organised Crime Investigation Unit.
The suspects, aged between 32 and 41, were arrested on Friday, 3 July 2026, during a stop-and-search operation in Devon after one vehicle failed to stop, leading to a police chase.
“Upon searching the suspects and the vehicle, police found an unlicensed firearm loaded with ammunition, blue lights, and uniforms belonging to the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department and SAPS. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle they were driving had recently been hijacked,” said police spokesperson Mavela Masondo.
Masondo added that the use of blue lights and police uniforms to commit robberies and hijackings is a very serious criminal offence and undermines public trust.
Both suspects are expected to appear before the Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 6 July 2026, facing charges including possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and impersonating a police officer.
