Media personality Somizi Mhlongo has affirmed his support for the upcoming youth march scheduled to take place on Heritage Day, 24 September 2025.
The march, organised largely through social media platforms such as TikTok and X, aims to highlight the pressing challenges faced by young South Africans, including high unemployment rates and the rising cost of living.
Inspired in part by recent youth-led demonstrations in Nepal, the movement has gained momentum online, with many citing that drastic measures are needed to draw attention from those in power.
In a video shared on his TikTok page, Somizi expressed sadness that young people in South Africa are once again forced to protest decades after freedom fighters sacrificed for a better future.
“When we had to fight, some of us died so that our kids would not go through this. But now, we are the very ones making them suffer the same struggles,” he said.
He further described seeing long queues of young people desperately seeking work, some of whom have been unemployed for 5–10 years.
Somizi encouraged the youth to participate in the march, stressing the importance of peaceful but impactful action.
“Do it peacefully, but make sure it has an impact,” he urged.

His stance has been widely praised, with many thanking him for consistently standing by the youth.
One social media user commented that:
“Somizi is the only celebrity who actually cares about the societal ills in South Africa, while others are focused on selling young people to Russia.”
