Research suggests that women tell fewer lies overall, but their motives are often rooted in kindness.
On average, men tell about six lies a day, while women tell roughly three. This indicates that while women may lie less frequently, their lies are often intended to preserve harmony or protect others.
White lies dominate everyday deception. Nearly 90% of lies fall into this category: small, harmless statements typically designed to avoid conflict rather than to mislead with malicious intent.
Women, in particular, are more likely to tell lies to shield others from harm or discomfort. Studies show that women’s lies are frequently motivated by compassion, highlighting a subtle but meaningful difference in the way men and women approach honesty.
On Drive 959, Kgomotso Meso pointed out one of the most common white lies: “I have a headache has to be one of the biggest lies. I think men are aware.”
