- Pilot Andrew Blackwood-Murray remains missing after his light aircraft crashed into the sea during an aerial display in Durban last week.
- The NSRI says advanced search technology is being used, with weather and sea conditions not hampering efforts.
- Authorities have appealed to the public and maritime community to report any debris to assist investigations.
The search for missing pilot Andrew Blackwood-Murray continues in Durban following the tragic plane crash that occurred last week.
Blackwood-Murray was performing an aerial display outside Suncoast during an aviation summit last Thursday when he reportedly lost control of his light aircraft.
A video circulating on social media shows the plane spiraling rapidly toward the ocean before crashing into the sea.
According to National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson Craig Lambinon, emergency services remain on the scene, using advanced search technology to aid the recovery efforts.
“Advanced search technology continues to be deployed in the ongoing search. Weather and sea conditions have not been a factor and have not hampered ongoing search efforts.
We are appealing to the public and maritime community to report any sightings of debris that may be linked to the light aircraft accident. Such information should be shared with the Police, NSRI Emergency Operations Centre, or via marine VHF radio to Durban Radio Telkom Maritime Radio Services or Durban Port Control, so that findings can be recovered to support the AIID and Police investigations into this catastrophic incident,” Lambinon said.
He added that Blackwood-Murray’s loved ones are receiving care, support, and regular updates as the search continues.
