Three other suspects were also apprehended during the operation.
The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Johannesburg caucus leader, Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku, has vehemently criticised Kunene’s explanation of events, labelling it “laughable” and “a complete insult to the intelligence of the public.”
She asserted that Kunene’s presence at the suspect’s home brings both the City of Johannesburg and the Patriotic Alliance, his political party, into disrepute.
“There is absolutely no reason why a sitting MMC should be found at the home of a man accused of such a violent and high-profile murder,” Kayser-Echeozonjoku stated, calling for Mayor Dada Morero to act swiftly to safeguard the integrity of the metro’s leadership.
Point of View with Phemelo Motene spoke to DA Gauteng Caucus Leader Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku what happened with Kunene “brings the entire executive into disrepute.”
