Following the news of startup founder Vinay Hiremath opening up about his loneliness after making millions from selling his successful company, the Siz The World team reflected on the topic of purpose and self-awareness.
Vinay, the Indian-origin entrepreneur who co-founded Loom, sold the startup to Atlassian for $975 million in 2023. In a candid blog post, he detailed his emotional struggles and insecurities after suddenly becoming wealthy.
In response to his reflections, the Siz The World team posed a powerful question to their listeners: “What is your purpose in life, and are you living up to it?”
Sizwe Dhlomo shared that many people do not have the luxury of truly getting to know themselves, which means they often do not know what genuinely drives them.
Sol Phenduka added that it is a difficult question because most people derive their sense of purpose from what they do for a living or how they serve others. “To be honest, I don’t know myself outside of work,” he admitted.
Sizwe went on to say that his purpose is closely linked to his family.
“If I were to lose myself, I would have no purpose to live. Nothing gives me greater joy than seeing joy within my family.”
Adding to the discussion, Mpho Maboi shared that her purpose is to live as her most authentic self at all times.
“I can never be any other version. There can only be one Mpho Maboi in this life. In being my authentic self, I encourage others to do the same. Whether you like it or not, someone is looking up to you. Be your authentic self always,” she expressed.
