Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs striker Siyabonga “Bhele” Nomvethe took to social media to wish his wife, Nompumelelo Mpanza, a happy 22nd wedding anniversary.
In a loving post on Instagram, the former AmaZulu assistant coach posted a throwback picture of their wedding day and wrote, “Happy 22nd anniversary sthandwa wami💍I love you❤️”
Among those who wished him well is former Bafana Bafana player and Cape Town Spurs coach Shaun Bartlett.
“Congrats Bhele. Wishing you many more unbelievable years together friend, team mate & former 2000 Afcon roomie😂❤️,” Bartlett wrote in the comments section.
Multi-award-winning footballer, Nomvethe, married his childhood sweetheart, Mpanza, in a secret traditional ceremony at his home in Kwa Mashu, Durban in 2002.
The couple share two children together.
Nomvethe’s astounding professional football career started at Durban Cosmos and African Wanderers, eventually landing him a spot with Kaizer Chiefs in 1998.
In 1999, he played for South Africa, representing the country in both the 2002 and 2010 FIFA World Cups, including the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations, to name a few.
Nomvethe joined the Italian club Udinese Calcio in 2001 and also played for Salernitana Calcio and Empoli and Djurgårdens IF in Sweden.
He returned to South Africa in 2011 to play for Orlando Pirates, Moroka Swallows before retiring in 2019 at the age of 41.
In May 2024, Nomvethe made his acting debut on the popular SABC 1 soapie Uzalo where he played himself.
