Upon inspection, the containers, which had been declared as furniture, were found to be crammed with fake designer clothing, imitation jewelry, and counterfeit kitchenware.
These types of illicit products are commonly sold on the streets at significantly reduced prices compared to their genuine counterparts.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the containers originated from an Asian country and were ultimately destined for distribution in Alberton and central Johannesburg in Gauteng.
Police are now actively working to trace the individuals and criminal networks responsible for this large-scale illegal importation.
