South African sprinting sensation Akani Simbine extended his remarkable unbeaten streak in the 100m to five international meets on Sunday night, securing his third Diamond League victory of the season in dominant fashion.
Simbine showcased his blistering pace in the final 30 metres, pulling away from a strong field to cross the finish line in an impressive 9.95 seconds.
Kenyan Ferdinand Omanyala claimed second place with a time of 10.05 seconds, while Olympic bronze medalist Fred Kerley of the United States finished third in 10.07 seconds.
The win held particular significance for Simbine, who was narrowly edged out by Kerley by just one-hundredth of a second at last year’s Paris Olympics.

This time, however, Simbine proved unstoppable, maintaining a perfect start to his year with prior victories in Botswana, two in China, and one in the US.
This latest triumph also marked Simbine’s 12th career Diamond League meet victory, a feat that draws him level with South African high-jump legend Hestrie Cloete, who competed when the series was known as the Golden League.
The 31-year-old’s achievement also places him one win ahead of fellow South African track star Wayde van Niekerk, who finished fifth in the 200m later in the meet.
