The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched an investigation after the body of 11-year-old Jayden Lee Meek was found on the stairs of his residential complex in Fleurhof.
Kaya News reports that Jayden was last seen on Tuesday, 13 May after he was dropped off by his scholar transport within the gates of the Swazi Place complex in Fleurhof.
However, he never made it to his home on the second floor.
His family reported him missing at the Florida Police Station on Tuesday evening and continued searching for him with no results.
Jayden’s body was eventually found early on Wednesday morning on the second floor stairwell.
His body was still warm.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Mavela Masondo, told Kaya News that a team of senior detectives has been deployed to the complex.
“They’ve started with the investigation, we are obtaining statements from the relevant people. For now, it’s an inquest pending further investigation. No one has been arrested so far,” said Masondo.
Meanwhile, the Meek family has called for each apartment to be searched and the residents rallied behind them as they also believe that Jayden was murdered inside one of the apartments.
