The Pretoria High Court was the scene of a search and seizure operation conducted by the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) Serious Corruption Investigation unit on Tuesday, authorities have confirmed.
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) revealed in a statement that the operation is linked to accusations of fraudulent Notices of Motion being unlawfully generated by a specific employee within the court system.
According to the Hawks, the implicated individual allegedly issued these bogus legal documents to undocumented foreign nationals in an attempt to prevent their deportation back to their home countries.
The matter was officially brought to the attention of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in March of this year, prompting the ongoing investigation.
“This search and seizure operation specifically targeted one office and an individual believed to be central to the commission of these offences,” the Hawks stated.
They further confirmed that “exhibits were seized for further investigations,” indicating that the authorities are actively gathering evidence to build a case against the alleged perpetrator. The investigation is still underway, and further details are expected to emerge as the evidence is processed.
