Rachel Kolisi has revealed that her family is safe amid the ongoing fires on the mountain in Tokai, Cape Town.
The estranged wife of Springbok captain, Siya Kolisi, took to social media on Sunday to share alarming pictures of the fire just metres away from her home.
“We are all safe (thank God) our home is safe. So grateful for our firefighters, community and SPECIALLY @carliannsmithy and Dale – honestly no way I would have managed the last 24 hours without you,” Rachel wrote on Instagram.
Rachel also indicated how drained the encounter with the blaze has left her and said, “Exhausted, and hope I’m not speaking to soon but I think the worst is over.”
According to reports, the fires started on Friday afternoon on the slopes of Table Mountain National Park. The fire quickly spread along Lower and Upper Tokai, forcing evacuations of homes as a safety precaution.
Some of the fires were successfully contained overnight however, they flared up again on Sunday morning due to increased wind speeds and a change in the wind direction.
Om Monday morning, The South African National Parks (SANParks) confirmed that about 3000 hectares of vegetation has been burnt in the fires.
“Members of the community who were evacuated on Sunday as a precaution have now returned to their homes,” the SANParks said on Facebook.
