Iconic South African singer and humanitarian Yvonne Chaka Chaka recently celebrated her 60th birthday, marking a significant milestone in her illustrious career.
She was joined by her family and friends as she celebrated her diamond jubilee and expressed her gratitude on Instagram.
“To everyone who made my day special! I thank you ! What a time to be alive,” wrote Chaka Chaka.
Chaka Chaka marked her 60th birthday with a heartfelt return to her roots, demonstrating that her connection to Soweto remains as strong as ever. She chose to commemorate her milestone by giving back to the community that nurtured her early years.
In a collaborative effort with Shoprite Sixty60, Chaka Chaka personally distributed essential food supplies to elderly residents facing hardship within Soweto.
Accompanied by local community leaders, she ensured that 100 families received much-needed groceries, turning her birthday into a beacon of hope and support.
Born in Pimville, Soweto, Chaka Chaka’s musical journey began in 1985, quickly earning her the title “Princess of Africa.”
With hits like “Umqombothi” and “Motherland” Chaka Chaka’s music transcended borders, becoming a symbol of hope and resilience during the apartheid era.
Beyond her musical achievements, she’s a passionate advocate for social justice, health, and education, serving as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
