Dr Malinga opens up about Tax struggles
In 2022, reports surfaced that SARS (South African Revenue Service) had repossessed some of Dr Malinga’s belongings to auction off due to unpaid taxes.
During an interview on Podcast and Chill with MacG, Dr Malinga confirmed the reports.
The singer revealed that he struggled to keep up with payments because he hadn’t received bookings.
“I remember SARS called me many years ago to tell me that I owed them R2.1 million,” he said with a sigh.
Malinga explained that he had paid R1 million and continued to pay off the remaining amount until the COVID-19 pandemic struck. “In the music industry, you depend on being booked, and then COVID happened,” he added.
The musician also shared that he had contacted various people for assistance, including former Minister Nathi Mthethwa, but unfortunately, his efforts were unsuccessful.
