Renowned US singer-songwriter Babyface did not receive the respect he deserved at the 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday, 2 February, at the Crypto.com Arena in California.
Real name Kenneth Edmonds, the legendary musician found himself in an awkward exchange while being interviewed by two young reporters from the Associated Press.
Mid-interview, one of the reporters spotted Best New Artist nominee Chappell Roan making her way down the red carpet. She immediately snubbed Babyface, leaning to the side and calling out for Chappell instead.
Noticing the situation, Babyface smiled and graciously told the reporters, “Go do that,” before stepping aside to let them interview the Pink Pony Club singer.
The reporters’ treatment of the music icon sparked backlash online, with fans calling their behaviour disrespectful. Many felt it highlighted how older artists are often overlooked once newer ones emerge.
In response, The Siz The World team and listeners discussed the issue of how veteran artists are treated in today’s industry. Listen to the full discussion on the podcast.
