City Power announced the indefinite suspension of load reduction starting from Monday, 3 January.
City Power spokesperson, Issac Mangena, said since intensifying efforts in cutting off illegal connections and addressing meter tampering, City Power has witnessed a notable reduction in pressure on the electricity grid.
Mangena said that as a result, many customers have approached City Power for legal reconnections and are now paying for the services they consume.
He also warned that any change in consumer behaviour could lead to the reintroduction of load reduction.
“Although the suspension of load reduction is indefinite, we want to remind our customers that any significant change in consumer behavior—such as a spike in high electricity consumption, illegal connections, or meter tampering—could necessitate the reintroduction of load reduction.
“Should this occur, we may have to act swiftly, potentially with little to no prior notice, to protect the stability of our electricity supply,” Mangena wrote in a statement.
