Four police officers have been arrested in connection with the escape of alleged illegal mining kingpin known as ”Tiger”.
South African police initiated a manhunt for Lesotho citizen, James Neo Tshoaeli, an alleged “kingpin” of illegal mining after he escaped arrest following a rescue operation last week that resulted in the recovery of 78 dead miners from an underground goldmine.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) other illegal miners have accused Tshoaeli of being a ringleader responsible for attacks, tortures, fatalities and withholding food from others underground.
The four police officers have been released on R1000 bail each. The group returns to the Stilfontein Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 5 March 2025.
