Celebrities have taken to social media to express their shock and sadness following the sudden death of singer Winnie Khumalo (51) on Tuesday.
Winnie’s recording label Kalawa Jazmee Records released a statement in which they confirmed Winnie’s passing and acknowledged the singer’s remarkable contribution to the South African music scene.
In 2008 Winnie released her hugely successful album Just Wanna Live My Life under Kalawa Jazmee Records featuring her multi-award nominated hit single Live My Life.
“A true icon, Winnie Khumalo made a remarkable contribution to the South African music scene, inspiring many with her powerful voice and unforgettable performances. Her passion, talent, and dedication to her craft have left an indelible mark on the industry and in the heart of her fans,” the statement posted by DJ Oskido reads.
Celebs took to the comment section to react.
Singer Candy Tsamandebele said:
“This is sad, condolences to the family, colleagues and friends.”
DJ Tira wrote:
“RIP Sis Winnie, Condolences to the family.”
DJ Chistos commented:
“Sad day for our industry RIP to our sister Winnie. prayers to the family.”
Mafikizolo singer Theo Kgosinkwe added:
“Sad news indeed, condolences to her family,daughter and loved ones,may her soul rest in peace. Her talent will leave on.”
Meanwhile, DJ Mahoota expressed his sadness on Instagram and said, “Sadden by The Passing of such a Great Jewel,A Star,A Mother,A BusinessWoman,One of @kalawajazmeer ‘s Prodigy.Condolences to The Family,close relatives and Fans.”
This comes after Winnie died following a short illness on Tuesday.
Family spokesperson, Tshepi Rakeepile, told the media that Winnie wasn’t feeling well and her daughter Rathabile Khumalo rushed her to the hospital but unfortunately she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Winnie is survived by her daughter, singer Rethabile Khumalo, her son Thando Khumalo, three grandchildren, three sisters and her mother.
