Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has confirmed the deaths of two passengers at OR Tambo and King Shaka International airports respectively.
The deaths of the two passengers, one at each airport occurred on Saturday, 14 September and the cause of death in both cases is still unknown.
Officials at OR Tambo Intl. Airport received a call at 15:10 on Saturday, reporting that a person had fallen from parking Level 5 to the ground level.
Law enforcement and airport health official stationed at the 24-hour clinic were immediately alerted to the incident.
Paramedics later arrived and declared the unidentified traveller dead on scene.
In the second case, an unidentified male passenger at King Shaka Intl. Airport reportedly collapsed at the airport’s terminal domestic arrival area.
Emergency services were immediately called and attended to him but he was unfortunately declared dead on the scene.
According to ACSA, both incidents have been handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for investigations.
An inquest docket has been opened for both deaths.
ACSA extended condolences to the families and loved ones of both travellers.
