27 personnel from the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DJCOD) have been fired for inappropriate conduct.
The department stated that it is convinced that resolving the issues will “serve as a strong deterrent against future misconduct and unprofessional behavior among its officials”.
These dismissals are part of 81 appeal matters recorded by the Department, which include 55 dismissals, 25 suspensions and 1 warning. These appeals were lodged by officials who were found guilty of serious misconduct.
“The misconduct in question ranged from fraud, theft, sexual harassment and bringing the department into disrepute to absenteeism, abuse of state vehicles and insubordination,” the department said.
“The [DJCOD] remains resolute in its commitment to finalise all appeals lodged with the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development and continues to strengthen its internal controls to combat any conduct that undermines its ability to deliver justice services effectively and efficiently.
“The consequence management measures implemented underscores the Department’s dedication to clean governance. All outstanding appeal matters are currently being processed expeditiously and will be concluded in due course. ” said Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DJCOD).

In other related news An inquiry has been launched into the escape of an inmate from the Waterval Correctional Centre in KwaZulu-Natal, says the Department of Correctional Services (DCS).
“A thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape is underway and the findings will identify any lapses. Those found to be responsible will face appropriate consequences”. The apprehension was successfully executed through the relentless efforts of our departmental officials.
“Dumisani Mthethwa is scheduled to appear in court on charges related to his escape. Additionally, his security classification will be reviewed, and he will be transferred to a different correctional facility to ensure heightened security measures ”. said DCS National Commissioner, Makgothi Thobakgale
