Legendary Portuguese defender, Pepe has announced his retirement from the beautiful game following an illustrious career spanning two decades.
The 41-year-old played over 878 games and won 34 trophies. Pepe announced it on social media with a video showing off his impressive trophy cabinet.

Pepe’s former clubmate and friend Cristiano Ronaldo took to social media to commend Pepe on his impressive football career.
“No words to express how much you mean to me my friend,” said Cristiano.
“We won everything there was to win on the field, but the biggest achievement is the friendship and respect I have for you. You are unique my brother. Thank you for so much.”
Pepe and Cristiano’s friendship spans years. The two began their careers at Sporting in the Portuguese league. The two reunited at Real Madrid, winning many trophies together. They spent many years representing Portugal’s national team.
Pepe was born in Brazil before moving to Portugal to join Marítimo. In 2004, he joined FC Porto.
In his first stint at Porto, Pepe won two Primeira Liga titles, two Taças de Portugal and the Intercontinental Cup.
After leaving Porto he joined Real Madrid, winning 15 major honours, including three La Liga titles, two FIFA Club World Cup titles, two Copa del Rey titles and three UEFA Champions League titles.
On the international stage, Pepe represented Portugal at four FIFA World Cups and five UEFA European Championships.
He won the UEFA European Championship in 2016, being named player of the match in the final.
