A 6-year old boy has lost his life after a shack fire broke out in Alexandra, Johannesburg on Tuesday morning, 16 July.
Little Mosa Kubayi suffocated to death after an informal structure next to the home they live in caught fire.
The distraught family spoke to Kaya News reporter Pontsho Motsepe, expressing their helplessness at being unable to save the boy.
Mpho Kubayi, uncle of the deceased who was present whilst the fire broke out said while he managed to save the lives of 3 of his other nieces and nephews, he wishes there was more he could have done to make sure Mosa made it out alive too.
The family whose home was destroyed in the fire which spread rapidly through their double storey 4 roomed shack, say not only do they have to come to terms with the boy’s untimely death, but have no means to give him a dignified send off.
Left with nothing but the clothes on their backs, the Kubayi family don’t know where they are going to live, let alone where to hold the funeral service for the 6-year old.
A cause for the fire is unknown at this stage but Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi says investigations are underway.
