Kelly Khumalo’s younger sister, Zandie is not impressed with new Minister of Sport, Arts & Culture, Gayton Mckenzie and his decision to publish a list of artists who published a list of artists who received financial support from the department during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Zandie and her gospel singer sister were among the 3 962 artists who received financial support, which cost the department R72 million between 2020 to 2021.
Since the list was published, there has been a heated debate over Gayton’s antics and what the reason for him to release the names of artists who applied for financial support at the time.
Zandie shared that she’s been inundated with calls from the media who want to know how much she received, and she questions whether there is any action she can take against the department in terms of the Popi Act.
“What does the Minister say we do when someone is called by the media? It’s crazy!
Hey guys, it was just R20 000 for me that was obtained legally. A call for applications was issued by the Department of Arts & Culture for people who lost work and income during that dreadful and horrible time and we applied, complied and we were approved.
Well at least me, that’s how it went. So, I actually wanted R200 000, well they deprived me.
I have a good mind that all of us sue this department now, it will be bankrupt. What does Popi act say on such things?”
