After 15-years KFC’s Add Hope initiative has reached the R1 billion mark, but where is the money going?
Andra Nel, KFC Marketing Manager Brand and Purpose joins Gugulethu Mfuphi on Kaya Biz to share how the Add Hope programme is fighting malnutrition and hunger.
“As a brand we firmly believe we cannot succeed in communities that fail. So, we need to be a part of the solution and we are, because of the people of South Africa.
At the very core, we are a people first brand and we want to make sure that we feed the potential youth in the country and Add Hope has been the most incredible part of that journey for us.
There are 3 million children in South Africa who go to bed hungry and how can we expect South Africa to succeed when our kids are hungry.
The Add Hope initiative was started 15-years ago, but we didn’t reach the R1 billion with just the R2 contributions. The beautiful thing that probably we’ve been a bit too humble about is that KFC also contributes to Add Hope.
Of the R1 billion, KFC has donated almost R400 million and our customers have donated just over R600 million.”
Andra says that the R2 contributions from the KFC Add Hope initiative feeds more than 30 million nutritious meals to children throughout South Africa.
All proceeds raised goes directly to non-profit organisations (NPOs) which focus on ending childhood hunger through the Kentucky Fried Chicken Social Responsibility Trust.
There are more than 130 NPOs that fall under the initiative to brighten the future for these children, so they will be able to focus once they have a full stomach which fuels them to learn, grow and thrive.
