To post or not to post your big life purchases on social media? That is the question the Drive 959 team delved into this week after DJ Zinhle broke the internet with her gift to her husband on his birthday.
Surprising her husband, MORDA (real name Bongani Mahosana), with a vintage Cobra convertible car in a deep purple, DJ Zinhle had a sign near the car expressly requesting that guests do not post the car on social media and ruin the surprise.
However, videos and pictures of the car were shared before the birthday boy was presented his gift, which led the team to prompt listeners into sharing whether they share their big purchases on social media or keep it private.
Kgomotso Meso shared that she does not post anything about her life, be in big ticket purchases like houses, cars or even holidays because she doesn’t want to live life constantly under pressure to always better her previous post.
“I don’t post particularly because sometimes you don’t realize how much pressure you might be putting yourself under.
So, you post this big car, life happen and you don’t have it anymore, now you feel like you have to explain to everyone who’s following you where that big car went, or why you’re not living in that big house you posted anymore.
For my sanity, I do not post any of the humongous achievements in my life unless it’s work related.”
While most celebrities pride themselves in a little “humble brag”, Skhumba Hlophe agrees with Kgomotso and believes that sometimes privacy is gold.
