The results of the general election in 2024 have officially been announced by the Independent Electoral Commission.
The IEC releases the official data and provides a final update to South Africans following months of work. The IEC revealed the final tally despite several disagreements regarding irregularities in the electoral process and requests to postpone the announcement.
In all, 568 374 new voters were registered for this year’s elections; 445 089 of these voters were between the ages of 16 and 29. On the voters’ roll, there were more than 27 million registered voters.
Millions of eligible voters nationwide turned out to vote in the hotly contested seventh democratic elections, which took place at more than 23,000 polling places.

The final seat allocation for the National Assembly:
The EFF’s seats have decreased from 44 to 39. The ANC now holds 159 seats, down from 230. The DA has seen an increase from 84 seats to 87. The MK Party has secured 58 seats.
The top three performing parties on the regional ballot – MK – 1 570 704 votes, 44.89% IFP – 638 242 votes, 18.24% ANC – 602 989 votes, 17.24%
