On Thursday morning, the 959 Breakfast team had a chat about the importance of having a wide vocabulary. They asked, “Do you think society values a broad vocabulary, or should we focus on new ways of communicating?”
This discussion was sparked by a tweet from @paulg that pointed out certain words indicating text was generated by AI. One word mentioned was “delve,” which some argued had been used long before AI came around.
Sizwe Dhlomo mentioned that he’s always been an avid reader which in turn has enriched his vocabulary.
Sol Phenduka chimed in, saying, “Communication is key, and the beauty of it is being able to express yourself clearly.” He believes it’s crucial to have the right words to describe any situation, especially for broadcasters who have limited time to convey a message effectively.
Overall, the group agreed that having a diverse vocabulary is essential in today’s world of communication.
