Gauteng police have confirmed the discovery of one charred body was made on Thursday, 14 March after information was received of 8 bodies that were allegedly seen at a Roodepoort mine.
The Central Gold One mine in Florida, Roodepoort is now being treated as an active crime scene after he gruesome discovery was confirmed.
Kaya News reporter Pitso Molemane is on the ground and has confirmed that there appears to be ongoing turf wars in the area between illegal miners or zama zamas.
Maximum resources have been mobilised to the mine to search for more bodies, which includes drones and a police helicopter to make scaling the area easier.
The discovery of the charred body was made at 10h00 near the mine and the identity of the victim, as well as cause of death will need to be determined via a post mortem examination.
Community members have shared with Molemane that the turf war between rival zama zamas are ongoing and there are reportedly frequent gun battles and violence as the two groups attempt to lay claim to the territory.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Mohlakeng, West Rand District police were called to a crime scene in Bundu Inn where 3 bodies were discovered with unshot wounds on Thursday morning.
The motive for this has not been determined yet.
Illegal mining continues to plague Gauteng and last year Police Minister Bheki Cele assured the community of Riverlea where over 100 zama zamas were arrested that police were going to flush out illegal miners in the province.
