Chad Thomas, an independent organized crime investigator with IRS Forensic Investigations, recently joined 959 Breakfast to discuss the strategies being used to combat CIT heists. He praised the collaboration between law enforcement agencies in taking a tough stance against crime.
Thomas stressed the importance of increasing funding for these efforts, as the government recognizes that crime poses a significant threat to national security.
“The special task force of the police is almost equivalent to the special forces of the military. These guys received exceptional training during their cycle. They are taught to go into some of the most dangerous situations.
“When you are dealing with a cash-in-transit gang, they are not there to interact with the local community and their friends; they are there to place explosives, explode a truck, and shoot anybody that stands between them and the mon and between them, getting away. What we’re seeing in KZN is that the police are meeting force with force.”
Thomas continued, “I think what we are seeing is the coming together of crime intelligence and detectives together with reaction units, and that there are now intelligence-driven investigations to stop these guys in their tracks.”
