In a late night media briefing on Tuesday, 27 February the country was given an update on the murder investigation of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibs” Motsoane.
Police Minister Bheki Cele and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi have confirmed that six men have been arrested for the murders which was as suspected, a hit on the award-winning rapper.

Lt-Gen Mkhwanazi shared that AKA was followed from the King Shaka International airport in Durban on his arrival by one of the suspects, all the way to his hotel and then later to the restaurant that he would later be targeted at.
“There’s a total of 6 suspects that have been arrested and detained in connection with the murders of Kiernan Forbes, also known as AKA, as well as Tebello Motsoane.
The incident that happened on 10 February on Florida Road in Durban, these 6 played different roles during the operation.
We have the coordinator who was basically the master of everything, we have two shooters that you all saw on social media (CCTV footage), we have two spotters – one who was inside the restaurant observing and watching Mr Forbes and his friends, as well as the organiser of firearms and vehicles.
The vehicles that were used in the getaway, the firearms that were used in the shooting were all hired.
The spotter initially spotted Mr Forbes from the airport on arrival, all the way to the hotel as well as to the restaurant where the incident happened.”
Police are currently still searching for two more suspects believed to be on the run.
All 6 suspects who have been arrested are set to make an appearance in court on Thursday, 29 February.
The update on the murders of AKA and Tibs comes after Lt-Gen Mkhwanazi said the two men who were arrested in eSwatini were not linked to the case.
