Nine ANC supporters have died in a bus crash after the party’s KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) manifesto launch on Sunday morning, 25 February.
Ten others are said to be in a critical condition as a result of the driver reportedly lost control of the bus and the vehicle overturned on the R33 route, 5km from Paulpietersburg.
The ANC supporters were en-route back home to Mpumalanga after the ANC’s manifesto launch in Durban when the crash occurred.
According to Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), the bus was carrying approximately 70 people.
A cause of the bus crash is unknown at this stage and an investigatin will be underway.
Several passengers were trapped when the bus overturned.
This is the second bus crash which claimed the lives of ANC supporters, as last month 6 supporters died in a bus crash on their way to the party’s 112th birthday celebrations.
The accident happened around 3h30 am, on Saturday, 13 January 2024. Preliminary reports indicate that 3 buses were following each other, when the third bus hit the second one from behind, and overturned into a gorge.
