The father of Sifiso Mkhwanazi, the alleged sex worker serial killer said he didn’t believe his son was capable of murder.
Mark Khumalo took to the stand at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court sitting in Palm Ridge to testify against his 22-year old son.
Mkhwanazi, who admitted to killing the 6 women but denied the rape charges against him, was arrested in October 2022 after a decomposed body was discovered inside his panel beating shop.
Police were alerted to a foul smell coming from the building by first state witness Micheal Kingsley Damien, a caretaker at the building which is located in the Johannesburg CBD.
It was Damien who discovered the first body, which he happened upon after investigating where the pungent foul smell was coming from.
Five other bodies were discovered after police questioned Mkhwanazi who led police to the places he had disposed them.
All the bodies were at a terrible state of decomposition which made identifying the victims impossible for police, and a forensic report was effected.
On Monday, 05 February, the father of the alleged sex worker serial killer said while he was suspicious of his son’s strange activities at the panel beating shop which was under his name, he did not believe Mkhwanazi was capable of murder.
Khumalo told the court that dustbins from the workshop went missing days before the bodies were discovered.
When asked what the foul smell coming from the workshop was, Mkhwanazi told his father that a cat had died under one of the cars, and he had cleaned it up.
Sifiso Mkhwanazi faces a range of charges which includes, murder, rape, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Through his lawyer, Mkhwanazi admitted to killing the 6 sex workers allegedly because they demanded more money.
