A 29-year-old man has been detained by Gauteng police for the fatal Marshalltown fire that occurred in August of last year, which resulted in the deaths of over 70 people and the displacement of over 100 others.
The shocking confession was heard at the Usindiso Commission of Inquiry into the cause and liability of the August 2023 fire, where he was giving testimony.
The man is expected to face 120 counts of attempted murder and 76 counts of murder, according to police. It is anticipated that the suspect will soon appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
