Six people have died and 13 others are still missing following flash floods in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal over the Christmas weekend.
Heavy rainfall from Christmas eve left parts of Ladysmith underwater, and a number of people were swept away when the banks of the Bullspruit river burst.
Search and rescue operations were thwarted due to wet weather still persisting.
Teams on the ground from various organisations like the Red Cross are offering assistance to those affected.
An estimated 1,400 homes were either swept away, flooded or damaged in the floods.
People trapped in their vehicles which were swept away, and some from a nearby caravan park are among the missing.
The bodies of 6 people have since been recovered.
According to KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance MEC, Bongi Sithole, 9 members of the same family are among the dead and missing.
The family was reportedly travelling in a bakkie on Sunday, 24 December when they were swept away.
