Orlando Pirates removes Thembinkosi Lorch from all club activities until 12 December, following the conclusion of legal proceedings against the footballer.
On Tuesday, 21 November Lorch was fined R100 000 and given a 5-year suspended sentence for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Fundiswa Nokuphiwa Mathithibala in 2020.
In response, Orlando Pirates said it noted the conclusion of the assault case against Lorch, and will now commence its own internal process.
This is in line with the club’s rule and pledge which was articulated in the statement the club issued when legal proceedings against the player commenced.
“Orlando Pirates Football Club is at all times mindful of its obligation as a result of the employer-employee relationship it has with the players.
The Club also handles the administration of justice in a manner that avoids double jeopardy – where the players would be punished twice for the same offence.
The above are consistent with the club values without which the Club would not function judiciously.
Having said that the Club has removed Thembinkosi Lorch from all Club activities until 12 December.”
Lorch was also deemed unfit to carry a firearm, and was convicted of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in June by the Randburg Magistrates Court.
Under the suspended sentence, Lorch should not be found guilty of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm during the 5-years.
