Mamelodi Sundowns are the African Football League champions.
The inaugural African Football League (AFL) winners, Mamelodi Sundowns were crowned after defeating Wydad Casablanca 2-0 in the second leg to win the championship 3-2 on aggregate.
At the boisterous Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, goals from Peter Shalulile and Aubrey Modiba helped Sundowns, who trailed 2-1 going into the home leg, square the score.
They defeated the formidable Moroccan team yesterday, there was nothing that could have prevented them from being declared champions.
Additionally, it was payback for Wydad eliminating them from the Caf Champions League semifinal at the same location back in May.Modiba doubled Sundowns’ lead five minutes after the half by running through after intercepting a misdirected ball.
Mamelodi Sundowns received R75 million for taking first place. They lost the first leg in Casablanca last Sunday.
