Parts of Roodepoort has been without power for over 16-hours, as City Power scrambles to respond to over 2 500 faults across the City of Johannesburg.
On Wednesday morning, 01 November, residents of Newlands, Greymont, Albertskroon, Bergbron, Delarey, Whiteridge, Maraisburg, Florida Glen, and multiple Northcliff extensions, voiced their frustration with ward councillors over the 16-hour + outage.
Residents say the outage occurred on Tuesday afternoon, 31 October at approximately 13h40, outside of the loadshedding times for the above mentioned areas.
Overnight City Power updated residents that some of the faults were being attended to, and that power was 80% restored.
While some homes in the these areas were switched on shortly before loadshedding was scheduled at 22h00, a majority of areas were not restored.
Shortly after power was restored, City Power says the area lost supply once again following a loud bang in the vicinity.
According to City Power, teams have been dispatched to investigate, and an estimated time for restoration has not been communicated.
Irate residents are concerned about matriculants who need to have access to online resources as they are studying for their final exams.
“There are many people that work from home to provide an income for their family. Issues like this just fuel the struggles we face. Some people will lose income due to no productivity.”
