R800 million worth of drugs have been destroyed by Gauteng SAPS at a secret location.
On Thursday, while conducting enforcement operations in Johannesburg, the police destroyed drugs valued at R800 million.
General Fannie Masemola, the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), oversaw the destruction of drugs, including marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and mandrax.
This is the third drug destruction procedure this fiscal year, according to national police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe. The most recent destruction took place in Cape Town in September.

According to Mathe, there were other high-profile cases connected to the drugs that were destroyed, such as the one at Maydon Wharf where over a tonne of cocaine with a street value of R400 million was found.
“In the 2022/2023 financial year, 20.8 of tons of drugs with a street value of 2 billion rand was also destroyed,”
“This drug bust happened in August 2022 when Ebrahim Kara, Elias Radebe and Meshack Ngobese were arrested in Cape Town after a truck transporting more than 600 blocks of cocaine was stopped by police and the drugs were discovered hidden in false wooden boards.
“This matter was finalised and Kara was handed down an eight-year sentence while Radebe and Ngobese were handed down one year and six years imprisonment sentences respectively,” Mathe said.
