The England Rugby team is seething in rage after World Rugby decide Tom Curry was not racially abused by Springboks specialist hooker Bongi Mbonambi.
World Rugby decided that there was insufficient evidence to proceed with charges against the South African player, who was accused of calling Curry a “white c#nt”, during the semi-final clash against England.
Mbonambi will start in the Boks’ final clash against the All Blacks on Saturday, 28 October and the outcome of World Rugby’s investigation into the matter was ridiculed by England Rugby and the Rugby Football Union (RFU).
In a statement, the English rugby team said they were disappointed that Mbonambi, will not be facing consequences despite, according to England, racially abusing Curry once before at the Autumn Test in 2022.
“The RFU fully support Tom Curry in raising the racially abusive behaviour he experienced whilst playing for England against South Africa.
During the match between England and South Africa on Saurday, 21 October, Tom Curry reported to the referee that he has been racially abused by Mbongeni Mbonambi.
The subsequent World Rugby investigation were informed by Tom Curry that he had also been the victim of the same abuse, from the same player in the Autum Test 2022.
The RFU are deeply disappointed by the decision taken by World Rugby.
The decision not to put the evidence before an independent disciplinary panel has denied the disciplinary process the opportunity to hear Tom Curry’s voice and to independently assess his accountof these serious events, together with the other available evidence.”
The RFU condemned the abuse that Tom Curry and his family have since been subjected to on social media.
Curry has deactivated comments on his social media after being on the receiving end of social media abuse this week.
